Financial Explanations

One of the reasons I started this mailing list was so that I could further explain the reasons for the resort's policies. Policies that at first glance might seem unreasonable, or unnecessary.
Another benefit being that in future I can respond to those seeking explanations, by quickly pointing to the appropriate message in the archive. Finally, I am always open to making changes, and the list allows members the opportunity to provide commentary and/or suggestions that could improve or simplify these policies.

Financial Explanations:

Why is payment cash only?
Cash requires that I do nothing else.
Cheques require that I take them to the bank (which is not nearby - replacement concierge required), can be made out incorrectly, and can bounce.

Why when a vacation is cut short should the guest still pay the full amount owing?
Previous to this policy guests were making open ended vacations, with rather vague departure times. In other words, I was taking on the risk! The risk that for some unforeseen reason or event the vacation needed to be cut short. Also the full vacation as shown on the availability calendar may have deterred other guests from making a reservation (no vacancy on a certain day/s, or overly crowded for them). This policy also tends to avoid confusion on what is the most chaotic event at the resort 'The Departure'!

Why a cancellation fee of $60?
This only applies to last minute cancellations (within 2 days of the arrival)!
Cancellations and no shows were a frequent problem during the peak holiday periods previous to this policy. In other words, guests were making shotgun reservations based merely on a possibility that they might need to take a vacation at the times specified, or where making reservations at several places on the off chance that one of these places might prove unsuitable or whatever...

Basically all these financial policies seek to avoid confusion, unexpected surprises, awkward moments, unfortunate events, and as a result provide happy trouble free vacations for all concerned! :-)
